Flight Simulator Introduction:
Simulated aircraft flight envelope, flight environment, flight conditions when it executive flight mission. It also provide similar CLS (control force load), vision, hearing and kinesthesia testing and training device to pilot (aircrew).
Generally speaking, flight simulator can be divided into three parts; one is for engineering research, second is for training and third is for experiencing. The former is used for new type flight simulator research, testing and existing aircraft improvement; the latter is used for training flight crew which can help them master flight driving technology and other related technology (such as navigation, bombing, shooting and air flight) and some complex equipment usage. On the training flight simulator, people can operate aircraft on the ground which is the same as the real aircraft and also can experience the flight sense. The third usage is for entertainment experience simulator.
The flight aircraft simulator is used for simulated aircraft flight simulator. It is made up of simulated cockpit, motion system, visual system, computer system and IOS (instrument operation station) five main parts.
1 Simulated Cockpit
The simulated cockpit of training flight simulator is nearly the same of interior as the real aircraft, different kinds of operation device, instrument, and signal display device and etc. and their work, indication condition are also the same as the real one. So the pilot in the simulated cockpit likes sitting in the real aircraft cockpit. The pilot operate various kinds of operation device (joystick, accelerator, and switch), different kinds of instruments and signal not only can do the related work, but they can heard related sound of equipment (such as roar of motor, sound of landing gear…) and external environment (such as grating of airframe and airflow, sound of thunderstorm and etc.). Meanwhile, the hands and feet of pilot also has the strength produced by control aircraft.
2 Motion System
It is used for simulated the attitude and speed changing of aircraft which make pilot feel the motion of aircraft. Advance flight simulator motion system has 6DOF, namely in three-dimensional coordinate around three axis rotation and along with three axis’s displacement. It mainly has six hydraulic servo actuator cylinders (or six electric actuator cylinder and its supporting platform and the simulated cockpit is installed on the platform. Six actuator cylinders work together which can drive the platform and make the cockpit simulate the motion variation condition of airplane.
3 Visual System
It simulated the external scene what pilot sees out of cockpit and then pilot could judge the attitude, location, altitude, speed and weather conditions of airplane. Advance visual system use computer to produce external scene of cockpit outside. Then it displays through projector and display devices.
4 Computer System
It is the nerve center of flight simulator. Flight simulator has the high real-time requirement and large information communication, high requirement of accuracy real-time simulation control system. Computer system bears each systems mathematical model calculating and control mission of the whole simulator. Modern flight simulator always constitute of some computers and they form a network and each computer deal with different information respectively and they also exchange the information each other, so the whole simulator could operate coordinately.
5 IOS (instrument operation station)
It is the monitoring center of flight simulator and it is mainly for monitoring and controlling flight training condition. It not only can display aircraft flight parameters promptly (altitude, speed, course, attitude…), aircraft flight tracking, but also can set up different kinds of flight conditions (air speed, wind direction, air temperature, air pressure, initial position…). In addition, it can set up different kinds of fault which is used for judging and handling failure of training pilot. Advance IOS also has the function of maintenance and detection, checking, identifying and etc.
